The Hope of a Brighter Dawn?

Something just had to break.

What with the waves of "SCAMS" (which is almost the name of a disease now) and the dumbass cover ups, it was just a matter of time before a few good people sat up and thought - "What the hell? I've got to do something about this menace". Kindly notice the use of the word "I'VE". It shows courage and patriotism. After all, it definitely can't be easy taking on the corrupt politicians of India head on.

When we suffer from gastro-whatever problems (read stomach indigestion), we vomit. That's how the body cleanses itself of the muck that sits in the stomach. Our nation is currently undergoing a serious case of indigestion. No amount of Gelusil can help us. India has got to throw up or the puke will remain inside and cause further torment.

Have you heard about the Lokpal Bill? What about the Jan Lokpal Bill? Don't worry if you haven't. That is why this post is up here.

The Lokpal Bill allows "aapu adichufying" (filing complaints of corruption against) the prime minister, other ministers, and MPs. Although introduced and reintroduced 9 times (from 1969 to 2008), it could never get passed in the House. The Lokpal Bill isn't even a strong one. And for such a Bill, opposition parties, who are usually at each others' throats, join hands to kill it every time it comes up for consideration.

Maybe that is a blessing in disguise. A "Poor Bill" is hardly better than a "No Bill". Here is where Jan Lokpal comes into the picture.

The Jan Lokpal Bill, drafted by morally upright and eminent citizens of India, is a much stronger alternative to the never been passed weak Lokpal Bill. This strong Bill would pave the way for a "Jan Lokpal", an independent body like the Election Commission, which would have the power to prosecute politicians and bureaucrats without government permission.

Whoa! That is going to be a MAJOR PAIN in the "you know where" for those who want to loot and plunder. So obviously there is going to be one hell of a ruckus over this issue. The Bill is surely not going to get passed easily.

And yet change is in the air. I can almost feel it. Maybe this is it. Maybe our generation can usher in an independence of a different kind. We've got the tools baby. Oh yeah! We can make information spread like wildfire. And from what i have generally observed, most of us DO care about the atrocities that happen. Maybe this is our threshold. Maybe we'll all want change at the same time. Millions of such wants can't possibly be disregarded.

A group of people, lead by Anna Hazare (a Gandhian), has been crusading for this cause for quite a while. They are now looking for nation wide support to give life to the Jan Lokpal Bill. The support of those People of India who are disgusted by the open acts of corruption that have come to be synonymous with our country.

There are several eminent people who support this movement - former IPS Kiran Bedi, Justice N.Santosh Hegde, former chief election commissioner J. M. Lyngdoh, renowned advocate Prashant Bhushan, Shanti Bhushan, Swami Ramdev, Swami Agnivesh and Kapil Dev (hopefully you don't need a Wiki link to this guy).

This post is my bit to lend support to the movement against corruption. The question is, do you plan to do your bit?

  1. People dont think that we dont have any work to do in this
and it is some stuff unrelated to us....
here is a true instance of what our support can do....
previously hong kong faced a similar situation of corruption , the mafia and their police joined together and started robbing the country....their citizens started a agitation and setup a similar independent body to prevent corruption....

thanks vineeta for your update on ANNA HAZARE and the jan lokbal bill .......... :)
